Sophia De Baun
Sophia de Baun is a filmmaker and narrative editor and also teaches Film Studies at Barnard College. Her class, Women Filmmakers, focusses on feminist film theory and explores women directors from all over the world, situating them within their historical and political contexts. Her scholarship includes Women's and Gender Studies and English Literature at Rutgers University. As an artist, her work has been recognized in many capacities over her ten years working in the industry. She has been the recipient of the NYFA Women's Fund for Media, Music and Theatre; her films have achieved a variety of success such as screening at SummerStage as part of Rooftop Films, being selected as a Vimeo Staff Pick, and making NoBudge's 2023 Films of the Year list. Her films have also screened and won awards at top film festivals. Most notable is her pilot Chiqui (2022), which screened as part of the Sundance Indie Episodic program (co-writer, co-producer and lead editor).
